On May 12, 2022, the Officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – 7 conducted a comprehensive plant visit at the largest producer of geothermal energy in the Philippines, Energy Development Corporation (EDC), in Valencia, Negros Oriental.
The meeting tackled the company’s compliance to applicable legal and regulatory environmental requirements being a 100% renewable energy producer which offers sustainable power to the Visayas region for over 40 years already.
Furthermore, a discussion of Negros Corporate Relations on EDC’s Nursery Facility for native plant propagation was also done as EDC aims to work beyond compliance to continuously improve its environmental performance.
Aside from the meeting, the DENR-7 Officials and personnel also had a plant tour and even planted some native and critically endangered trees around the site.
The visit was spearheaded by DENR-7 Regional Executive Director Paquito Melicor Jr., EMB 7 Director Maribel Munsayac together with EMB7 Division Chiefs Engr. Ranzel A. Dioko and Engr. Rizalina R. Saberon, DENR PENR Officer Negros Oriental Engr. Viernov Grefalde, some EMB-7 personnel and top officials of the EDC.
